CHARLESTON COUNTY SETTLEMENT COMMUNITIES PROJECT

 

African American Settlement Historic Commission

This project will replace the aging roof of the historic Long Point School House to prevent further weather damage. The roof replacement will protect the structure, extend its useful life, and ensure the building remains a safe and functional community gathering space.

Chicora Cherokee Neighborhood Council

This project will enhance an existing community garden to support outdoor learning and educational programming. Funds will strengthen the space for a math and reading tutoring program in partnership with Chicora Elementary School and provide opportunities for intergenerational activities with local seniors, promoting learning, connection, and healthy lifestyles.

Concerned Citizens of Sol-Legare

This project will restore and preserve the historic Sol-Legare School building through critical structural, safety, and system upgrades. The improvements will stabilize the facility, maintain its historic character, and ensure it remains a safe, accessible space for community gatherings, education, and public use.

East Cooper Civic Club

This project will develop Scanlonville Memorial Park into a publicly accessible greenspace that preserves community history and expands outdoor amenities. Funds will support walking trails, interpretive signage, a central gathering area, and landscaping, creating a safe, welcoming space for community events, education, and neighborhood connection.

Lincoln Regional Center of South Carolina

This project will stabilize the historic Lincoln High School building through critical infrastructure improvements. Funds will support updated site surveys and plans, wastewater system upgrades to meet current standards, and replacement of a failing main electrical breaker, improving safety, reliability, and readiness for future restoration and community use.

Lincolnville Preservation & Historical Society

This project will strengthen local food access and resiliency by upgrading an existing community garden. Funds will support raised garden beds, drip irrigation, and expanded hydroponic infrastructure to increase sustainable food production and support ongoing community recovery efforts.

Progressive Club of John’s Island

This project will enhance a 0.6-mile public walking trail through safety and amenity improvements. Funds will support perimeter fencing, security cameras, and new gazebos, improving site security, usability, and access to a welcoming outdoor space for community recreation.

Red Top Improvement Association

This project will expand and upgrade the Red Top Park building to increase usable space and improve safety for community activities. Funds will support building expansion, HVAC and electrical upgrades, enhanced safety systems, and accessibility improvements to better serve residents and community events.
